A gym’s first members arrive right at opening and don’t wait: if the turnstile won’t read wristbands, the showers have no hot water and a treadmill shows an error, the complaint comes in at 7:05. The morning walkthrough makes sure the whole club is up and running — access control, climate, gym floor, locker rooms — and that anything broken is taken out of use before someone trains on it.

Follow the member’s route: entrance and front desk, gym floor, studios, locker rooms, then staff safety checks. Tag a faulty machine “Out of order” right away and file a maintenance request instead of leaving it “for later.” This is a quick readiness walkthrough, not a technical equipment inspection — that is done separately, on its own schedule.

Common violations

  • A machine showing an error is unplugged but not tagged: a member plugs it back in and trains on faulty equipment.
  • Hot water is checked in the shower closest to the boiler room. In the morning it takes longer to reach the far stalls, and members are the first to notice.
  • The emergency exit is locked overnight and nobody unlocks it in the morning — a direct fire safety violation for the whole time the club is open.
  • Ice on the entrance steps is cleared after the first members arrive: the earliest visitors are exactly the ones who slip.

Frequently asked questions

Whoever starts the shift and opens the club — usually the front desk staff. If a maintenance or facilities employee also works mornings, locker rooms and climate can go to them, but one person signs off on the walkthrough.

Opening is a quick readiness check: everything is on, put away and working. The technical condition of cables, mountings and pins is checked separately, on its own schedule, usually by a technician or senior trainer.

Let members in manually and record each visit in the CRM so no check-ins are lost, and notify access control support right away. Record when the outage started and when it was fixed in the walkthrough.
