A hygiene round checks how the clinic looks and is cleaned outside the treatment rooms: lobby, corridors, restrooms, consulting rooms, and storage for cleaning equipment and disinfectants. This is where patients judge the cleanliness of the whole clinic, and where inspectors judge whether the cleaning system works rather than one conscientious cleaner.
Follow the patient's route: entrance, waiting area, restrooms, consulting rooms, then back-of-house areas. Look at the records as well as the result: cleaning sheets, the disinfectant preparation log, the deep-cleaning schedule. Take contact times and concentrations from the product manufacturers' instructions and the clinic's internal procedures — the checklist verifies that they are followed and documented.

Common violations
- Diluted disinfectant is poured into an unlabeled water bottle — nobody knows what product it is or when it was prepared, and a patient or employee could mistake it for something else.
- The same mop is used for the restroom and the consulting room because "we have color coding but not a second bucket" — microbes are spread throughout the clinic.
- The restroom cleaning sheet is filled in for the whole day in advance — the entries are there, but soap and paper ran out in the morning; such sheets prove nothing during an inspection.
- The staff room fridge is used for "spare" medicines or samples — breaking both medication storage requirements and hygiene rules.
- Deep cleans are done but not recorded — during an inspection the clinic can't prove they happened at all.
Frequently asked questions
The hygiene round covers the whole clinic: public areas, restrooms, consulting rooms, cleaning equipment and back-of-house areas. The treatment room is checked separately and in more detail — including sterile supplies, medicines and waste.
They depend on the specific product and are set by its instructions and the clinic's internal procedures. The checklist verifies that instructions are available, solutions are labeled and preparation is logged.
Retention is set by local health regulations and the clinic's records policy. If there is no explicit requirement, set a period in an internal policy and keep records the same way at every location in the group, so you can show the cleaning history at any inspection.
