# Strict mode with a camera

> How to turn on a test's strict mode — camera, photo before start, full screen, tab monitoring — and review an attempt by its event log and trust score.

Strict mode is for when you need to be sure the employee takes the test on their own and without help: certification, workplace safety, job candidates. During the test the camera is on, and switching tabs or leaving full screen is recorded. The reviewer decides whether the result counts.

## How to turn it on

1. **Open the test settings.** In the builder, click **Settings** and go to the **Strict mode** section.
2. **Turn on “Strict checking, like an exam”.** Additional options appear.

3. **Choose what to monitor:**
   - **Camera** — periodic snapshots during the test; set the interval in the **Snapshot every … seconds** field;
   - **Photo before start** — a snapshot to confirm identity;
   - **Face-in-frame monitoring** — no face or several people counts as a violation and is recorded with a snapshot;
   - **Full screen mode**;
   - **Block copy and paste**;
   - **Auto-submit after violations** — how many violations are allowed: once there are more, the test ends automatically (0 means don't end it, just record them).
4. **Save the settings.** A **Strict mode** badge appears in the builder header.

> [!WARNING]
> Strict mode works only on the website. Such a test can't be taken in the mobile app — the employee gets a link for the browser. It's most convenient on a computer with a camera.

## What counts as a violation

Violations that count toward the auto-submit limit: switching to another tab or minimizing the window, leaving full screen, no face in the frame, several people in the frame, the camera turned off. Window focus loss, copying, pasting and other suspicious actions are also recorded in the log but don't count toward the limit.

If the limit is exceeded, the test ends automatically and is counted as failed.

## What the employee sees

1. **Rules.** Before starting, the employee sees that the camera is on and what exactly is recorded, and consents to being filmed.
2. **Camera check.** The browser asks for camera access. If access is denied, the screen shows how to allow it.
3. **Identity photo**, if turned on.
4. **The test in full screen.** On a violation, a warning appears along with a counter of remaining warnings.

Strict mode also opens on a phone, but minimizing the browser or switching to other apps isn't allowed — it counts as a violation.

## How to review an attempt

1. **Open the attempt.** On the test results page, **Attempts** tab, select the attempt. Strict-mode attempts have a trust badge: **High trust**, **Some concerns** or **Low trust**.
2. **Review the evidence.** The **Strict mode** block shows the **Trust score** (0–100), **Photo before start**, **Camera snapshots** and the **Event log** with the time of each violation.

3. **Make a decision.** **Confirm result** — you've reviewed the attempt and the result counts. **Annul** — the result doesn't count, the attempt doesn't use up the limit, and the employee can take the test again. You can give a reason when annulling.

> [!NOTE]
> The trust score is a hint, not a verdict. Strict mode collects evidence, but the reviewer decides whether the result counts.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who can see the camera snapshots?

Only people who manage tests in your company: administrators and employees with the **Test editor** mark. Snapshots are stored privately and can only be opened from the attempt.

### The camera doesn't work for an employee. What should they do?

Have them open the link in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, allow camera access (the lock icon in the address bar) and click **Retry**.

### Can I use strict mode with a public link?

Yes. Strict mode applies to everyone who takes the test on the website, including candidates using the **Public link**.
